Artist Statement:

As a runner and triathlete, I spend hours on the roads looking at the horizon, remembering the conversations that cut deep, or simply inventing them. This is the subject of my work. Every conversation is edited down into one, pivotal moment — the moment when something is said that changes the course of a relationship, gives away a secret, or reveals truths.

While my work isn’t visually figurative, it uses narrative in an extremely personal and literal way, creating images of, and empathy for, the characters in the viewer’s mind as the titles are read. It is that balance between showing and not showing, that revealing and inventing, that I am most captivated by. The horizon, the thin line between the concrete (what you can see), and the abstract (what you invent to fill in the gaps) gives visual context to my imagery. I use it as a grounding mechanism, anchoring the titles of my pieces to a specific time and place.
